You may have heard of people paying large amounts for certain dog breeds in the past, but what you might not realise, is that certain cat breeds can cost you a pretty penny as well! People spend thousands to get desired and rare cat breeds. We've done some research and compiled a list of some of the most expensive cat breeds in the world:

1. Savannah The Savannah breed is the most expensive cat breed in the world, with some selling for more than £20,000! They are so expensive because of their rare genes. The Savannah cat is a hybrid between a domestic cat and an African Serval. Those that are first generation hybrids sell at the highest price.

2. Bengal The Bengal is an incredibly beautiful breed, and another hybrid, this time between the domestic feline and an Asian Snow Leopard. Bengals have stunning markings, and generally a gentle temperament, making them an ideal pet. The most expensive Bengals can sell for around £10,000, but usually cost between £600 - £1500.

3. Maine Coon A personal favourite, the Maine Coon is one of the largest and fluffiest cat breeds. Originating from Maine, this cat breed has become one of the most popular breeds around the world. Sometimes referred to as the ‘gentle giant’, a pedigree Maine Coon can sell from anything between £500 - £1000.

4. Persian Persian cats are another fluffy favourite, and have a distinctive round face and short muzzle. They are a very popular and beautiful cat breed, and have a gentle nature. In the UK, you could spend between £500 - £1200 on a Persian cat. Persian cats originate from Iran and have been documented as far back as the early 1600’s.

5. Peterbald The Peterbald was first introduced in Russia in 1993, making it a very new cat breed. They are very distinctive as they have large ears and no hair. Sometimes the Peterbald might be mistaken for the better known Sphynx cat, but the Peterbald is actually closely related to the Oriental Shorthair. Since Peterbalds are still relatively new, you could end up paying over £1000 for this rare cat breed.
